Course summary

Studying A-level history not only helps improve your understanding of historical events but also helps you achieve skills that are instrumental in many different career paths. These skills include examining, essay writing, researching, communication, and problem-solving. You will also gain the capacity to prioritize information and learn how to make balanced arguments. This helps you to build an important skill set required for progression into university or your chosen career path. The AQA Advanced Level History comprises three components: - The British Empire 1857-1957. - The Cold War c. 1945-1991. - Coursework on a historical issue of the student's own choice. Students will study the first parts of Components 1 and 2 and sit the AS examination at the end of the first year. The NEA is completed in the second year. The Advanced Level History course is taught by Kevin Mottram, a graduate of the University of York (Politics, BA Hons). Kevin has thirty years of teaching experience, including twelve years as a secondary school Head of History and five years teaching in an international school in Mongolia. In addition to History, he has also taught both Politics and Sociology at GCSE and Advanced Levels.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above which must include Maths, and English Language and History at grade 6.
