Course summary

Graphic communication is a very practical and creative course which provides an array of exciting opportunities and projects, which will allow students to develop and obtain a wide range of skills. Our department believes in personalised learning and celebrates personal talent, skills and creativity. In addition to set projects, students will have the opportunity to work in areas that interest them and they excel in. During the course, you will acquire and develop a wide range of skills such as technological skills, digital and manual rendering skills, creative thinking, time management, problem solving, strategic planning and more, all very relevant for University or the workforce. This course has been structured to provide learners with the opportunity to experiment, develop and refine their skills in a range of areas. Skills and techniques will be developed through the analysis of, and response to, other designers’ work and processes, showing an understanding of a variety of approaches and creative use of a variety of mediums. Tasks include a range of foci so students can customise their learning, developing their knowledge and understanding of Graphic Communication; making links to historical and contemporary developments and societal influences on Design. The course develops transferable digital, practical and thinking skills including learning management, as students are encouraged to establish their independence and personal project management skills as the A Level course progresses. Students learn the appreciation of form and function and, where applicable, the constraints of working to a brief. The course also demands that students select their own areas of interest, providing them with the ability to move confidently beyond A Level study at the end of the course.
