Moreover, speaking a foreign language is one of the most sought-after skills for employers. Studying French can be combined with any other subjects; from sciences or maths to arts and humanities. A two-week transition period will enable you to develop the skills necessary to study from GCSE to higher level. The course covers: - 12 topics rooted in the current affairs of French-speaking countries. - Reading newspaper articles and literary texts. - Watching films and the daily news. - Debating contemporary topics and social issues. - Consolidating and expanding your grammar. - Pair and small group speaking practice in lessons, as well as conversation classes. - Dedicated lessons to develop your listening skills. - Writing to inform, convince and analyse. We will support you in becoming an effective independent learner. We have a wide range of online resources to inspire and support you outside of the classroom. In addition, we run small group and support sessions at lunchtime and offer individual help when needed. Studying a foreign language will equip you with a range of skills that are invaluable in the world of work. You will become a more informed person and discussions in the classroom will give you a broad perspective on a wide range of issues. You will also gain in-depth knowledge of France and French-speaking countries. The lessons will be intellectually stimulating and challenging as well as varied and interesting. You will work individually, in pairs or as part of a group. We attach great importance to your independent study skills, which you will develop to a very high standard. Over the two years, you are encouraged to develop and communicate your ideas on topics and current affairs, as well as to find out more about French-speaking societies and cultures.
Subject grades: Option A GCSE Grade 6 in French. Subject grades: Option B The applicant is bilingual or has recently lived in a French-speaking country (eligibility will be discussed with the applicant if they are qualified to attend a guidance meeting). Required Admissions Score: The indicative Minimum Entry Admissions Score for French is 58.
