Digital Photography will allow you to take full creative control of your camera and editing software and deepen your understanding of visual imagery from different periods and cultures. You will be made aware of the diverse roles and functions of Photography in society today and develop the skills to interpret and understand images and produce your own personal portfolio. Photographers think, see and make connections, solve problems, and make informed decisions and judgments – skills that are highly valued by employers. The ‘A’ level Photography course focuses on the production of digital still imagery using Nikon DSLRs, Adobe editing software, and Epson photo quality printing. In the first year, you choose a genre/theme to study, which enables you to develop broad-based skills, knowledge, and understanding of Photography. In the second year, you are expected to develop a more individual approach with the emphasis on quality and personal development.
6 GCSE subjects in Grades 4-9 This must include: English and Maths at Grade 4
The first six weeks will focus on camera and software experiments; learning how shutter speed, aperture, ISO, depth of field, lighting, and composition can be used creatively and edited using Adobe Photoshop. Over the two-year period students complete a Personal Investigation (Unit 1) and an Externally Set Task (Unit 2). Both units require a personal response to a genre, theme, or starting point and involve the study of practitioners’ work and the development of camera, software.
