Mathematics A2 studies: Pure Mathematics Statistics Mechanics The Pure Mathematics involves the continued study of algebra, trigonometry and co-ordinate geometry. Students will meet the new areas of calculus, and further numerical methods. The Applied elements illustrate the application of Mathematics to physical problems; • Mechanics- the emphasis is placed on modelling a real problem mathematically and solving it. • Statistics- the ability to use mathematically methods to sort and interpret data of all different types. There is a huge jump from GCSE and A-level so requires a high entrance grade. Success in this beautiful subject needs its students to have the passion to understand concepts, solve problems and use the language and notation of mathematics.
5 9-4 Grades, including Grade 9 – 4 English and Mathematics Mathematics GCSE Grade 6 to 9 An algebra assessment will also be undertaken by all students wishing to take the course at the beginning of year 12 and suitable revision materials will have been provided over the holidays. The outcome of this will determine your suitability for the course.
