A Level Design Technology is studied over 2 years. In Year 12 students complete several focused practical tasks and independently led design and make projects prepare them for the NEA in Year 13. Projects are taught alongside theoretical knowledge required for the exams at the end of Year 13.
5 GCSE's (Above grade C or currently equivalent level 4). You need to have studied either Product Design, Graphic Products or engineering and gained a level 5 or above at GCSE. GCSE courses provide a foundation of knowledge for A level. It is important that you have a strong interest in Design and want to develop both your creative and manufacturing skills as well as build on your levels of knowledge and understanding.
In Year 13 students complete the following assessed units: Paper 1 - Technical Principles 30% of A Level. Paper 2 - Designing and Making Principles - 20% of A Level. Non-exam assessment NEA - substantial design and make project 50% of A Level.
