You will enjoy the course if you are curious about the world around you and how the microscopic smallness of atoms influences the macroscopic properties of everyday objects. The course is taught through a mix of teacher-led lessons, class discussions and practical investigations. You will refine your ideas about atoms and electron arrangement while learning about the different types of bonding employed by the elements. You will also be introduced to a number of mathematical aspects of chemistry. You will also explore organic chemistry and the chemical reactions of a number of homologous series. You will also be taught about the energy changes that take place during chemical reactions and consider green chemistry and sustainability.
66 in GCSE science. 6/6 in Combined Science. English and Maths grade 5 or higher.
Practical and theoretical aspects of the course are assessed both through written papers and, for A level only, the Practical Endorsement.
