You will continue to build on the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, although these will not be assessed in four papers, but across three different exams at the end of the two-year course. The AQA A level in French covers six broad topics, some building on familiar areas such as family and technology, while others are new such as immigration and a multicultural society. We will cover all areas of grammar, to enable you to gain a sound knowledge of all language structures and develop your competence in applying them in your own writing and speaking. We will use predominantly French in the classroom, and support you to become more confident and fluent speakers of French. In addition, over the two years, you will study a film and a book in French, where you will apply all of these skills, as well as learn about the wider issues around France and French-speaking countries. IS THIS COURSE FOR ME? If you enjoy working out how sentences fit together and ask, or want to ask, questions about the language. This course allows you to learn to speak more fluently and be able to discuss wider issues in French.
Our course centre requirements for all courses are grade 4 or above in 5 subjects including GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics with a good attitude to learning. Course centre requirements + minimum grade 6 in GCSE French including completing all 4 skills areas at higher level.
You will be assessed through three exams: Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Writing Paper 2: Writing (film and literature) Paper 3: Speaking The speaking exam is largely based on an individual research project, where you can choose an area of special interest to you, which is related to a French-speaking country.
