You will study a range of classic dance styles and techniques through modern methods and study the theoretical aspects of dance history and development. Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy Dance Department has strong links with local and national dance agencies including Dance City, Ballet Lorent, Famous415, and Sunderland University. Working with professional practitioners and choreographers you will gain an insight into the professional dance world. IS THIS COURSE FOR ME? Our course centre requirements for all courses are grade 4 or above in 5 subjects including GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics with a good attitude to learning. Course center requirements + minimum grade 5 in GCSE Dance. All students will be considered on an individual basis if they have not studied dance before. You must have a dance background to access the requirements of the course.
Throughout the A-level dance course, you will study two components: Component 1: Performance & Choreography Assessed in a practical exam which is 80 marks/50% of A level This includes: • Solo Performance inspired by the work of a dance practitioner • Performance in a quartet • Group choreography Component 2: Critical Engagement Assessed in a written exam which is 100 marks/50% of A level. • Written exam 2 hours 30 minutes.
