Pure maths provides a thorough grounding in the mathematical tools and techniques often needed in the workplace, including topics such as logarithms, calculus, sequences and trigonometry. Mechanics deals with the action of forces on objects. In statistics, you will learn how to analyze data and calculate probabilities. IS THIS COURSE FOR ME? A level Mathematics is a challenging subject, certainly, a step up from GCSE, and many students find meeting this challenge to be deeply satisfying and rewarding. It supports and enhances the study of other mathematically-based courses. We are living in an increasingly technological society, and being mathematically literate to a high level can only be an advantage. Research has shown that A-level Mathematics has a positive impact on future career earnings.
Our course centre requirements for all courses are grade 4 or above in 5 subjects including GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics with a good attitude to learning. Course center requirements + minimum grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics.
The course will be assessed by three written exams at the end of year 13, each lasting 2 hours. Paper 1 will examine pure mathematics. paper 2 pure mathematics and mechanics. Paper 3 pure mathematics and statistics. All papers include a mix of question styles, from short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems.
