The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is strongly recommended for all advanced level students during their second year, especially if they want to go on to university. EPQ is open to both A Level students and professional and technical Level 3 students. It will allow you to pursue areas of academic interest, stretching you and enhancing your knowledge and understanding. You will gain a broader portfolio of skills and knowledge that will make you more attractive to universities. This will be of great value if you apply for universities or courses that require interview, for example the University of Cambridge or Oxford, or if you want to study Medicine and Veterinary Science. All universities look favourably on students who have completed an EPQ; it shows you have skills they value such as research, communication and the ability to manage your workload. Some universities give reduced offers to students who complete an EPQ to a good standard and an EPQ also contributes UCAS points for those universities making offers on the basis of points rather than grades.
This course is for school leavers. If you are over 18, please contact our Admissions Team to see if it is possible to study A Levels.
Submission of the project, production log and presentation make up the assessed work. The written project involves a minimum of 5,000 words and the practical project 1,000 to 5,000 words. You will also deliver a presentation outlining your findings. EPQ is marked internally then externally moderated by the AQA exam board.
