Course summary

Film plays an important role in society. Over the decades it has grown as a powerful vehicle for culture, education, leisure, and propaganda. Film Studies deals with various theoretical, historical, and critical approaches to films. This course is ideal for students who want to explore how and why films are made. Through exposure to a wide range of filmmaking processes and techniques, you will develop technical and creative skills that will help you to construct and deconstruct films. Coursework allows you to experiment with a variety of film-making technology and editing software. You will be expected to think independently and expand your knowledge outside of the classroom by reading about and watching films. This course will help you to develop a wide range of transferable skills including visual and verbal communication, analysis, and problem-solving. Students can go on to study film, TV, or media at university, leading to a range of careers in the media and creative industries.
