Course summary

From the fascinating molecular dynamics of the cell to the impact we humans have upon our ecosystems, this is a challenging and fascinating course. Biology students have enthusiasm and curiosity for our amazing living world and a willingness to work well with others. You will also need diligence, commitment, sound organisation and time management skills. It’s a fun and engaging course, accommodating a variety of teaching and learning styles, such as modelling, student-led lessons, practicals and lectures. Our students will communicate ideas and present, at times, to the rest of the class. A significant component of the course is mathematical. Among many skills and topics, you’ll develop an appreciation of how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society. Modules include biodiversity, diseases, genetics, ecosystems, biotechnology and sustainability.

Entry requirements

Grade 6-6 in GCSE Combined Science or grade 6 in GCSE Biology Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics

AS Level: Two written examination papers (Year 12) A Level: Three written examination papers (Year 13) plus a practical endorsement for Biology
