You will gain an informed and balanced view of micro- and macro-economics, moving from the individual to the global picture. We’ll examine how firms behave; how and why governments intervene and act as they do; how a country measures its economic success; and the changing face of international economics. You will develop your analysis, research and quantitative skills and learn to translate complex economic theory into digestible forms. The four core themes cover: an introduction to markets – how they work, why they fail and what government interventions look like; performance and policies with an emphasis on the UK economy; business behaviour and the labour market; and a global perspective, covering emerging nations’ economies and inequalities and the role of the state in the macroeconomy.
