Course summary

This qualification is not just about being able to play sports, it will provide learners with the skills, knowledge, and understanding to progress into Higher Education in a sport-related program such as Sport and Physical Education, Sport Science, Sports Coaching and Development, or Sport and Leisure Management. The new specification involves 3 mandatory units and two optional units: Unit 1: Body systems and the effects of physical activity- External, Mandatory. Unit 2: Sports coaching and activity leadership- Internal, Mandatory. Unit 3: Sports organization and development- External, Mandatory. Unit 5: Performance analysis in sport and exercise- Internal, Optional. Unit 8: Organisation of sports events- Internal, Optional. Unit 10: Biomechanics and Movement Analysis- Internal, Optional. Unit 11: Physical activity for specific groups- Internal, Optional. Unit 12: Nutrition and diet for sport and exercise- Internal, Optional. Unit 17: Sports injuries and rehabilitation- Internal, Optional. Unit 18: Practical skills in sport and physical activities- Internal, Optional. Unit 19: Sport and Exercise Psychology- Internal, Optional. Unit 20: Sport and Exercise Sociology- Internal, Optional.

Entry requirements

4 grades 4-9 or merit at level 2 including a 4 in GCSE English Language.

How you'll be assessed

Unit 1—Body Systems and the effects of physical activity is assessed by a 90-minute written exam compromising multiple choice, short answer questions and questions requiring more extended response Unit 3– Sports organization and development are assessed by a 60-minute written exam compromising short and long-answer questions.
