This course is primarily academic in style, whilst still encompassing the practical skills developed at GCSE, including performance and composition. Music is an enjoyable subject and combines well with a great many others at Post-16 level. It is holistic in nature: helping to develop aural awareness and a detailed understanding of musical styles, and encouraging students to apply this knowledge to performance and composition tasks. Set tasks cover a broad range of styles, including Western Art Music, Musical Theatre, Popular Music and Jazz. It is a rewarding, challenging course from which many go on to study music at higher education. You will develop your musical skills in a number of key areas: composition, performance, aural and musicological analysis.
7 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including grade 6 or above in Music GCSE. Students should be working at Grade 5 level theory and must also be at least Grade 6 standard on their instrument or voice.
