Students will gain a greater understanding of biological facts and awareness of developments in biology. They will enjoy and develop a personal interest in the study of living things and develop greater expertise in practical work.
The minimum entry requirements are a grade 6 or above in Biology GCSE, or grades 6,6 in GCSE Double Science; grade 5 or above in Maths. The desirable entry requirements are 6 or above in GCSE Chemistry or GCSE Physics; grade 6 or above in Maths; grade 5 or above in English Language.
Unit 1: Topics: Biological molecules, cells, exchange of substances, genetics and variation. 2 hour paper with short and long answer questions 35% of A level Unit 2: Topics: Energy transfer, homeostasis, genetics, evolution and gene expression. 2hrs paper with short answer questions and a comprehension question 35% A level Unit 3: This paper assesses the same content and also relevant practical skills covered throughout the course. The paper will also contain one essay question (you will have a choice of two).
