The EPQ is a qualification that is scaffolded to support you in developing your independent study skills. It is an independent research qualification and the outcome is not prescriptive: you are guided and supported to develop an outcome of your choice. This could be an extended essay of around 5,000 words (most popular option) or a field study, or an artefact of varying outcome (film, book, art installation, clothing, computing project, an event, magazine etc!) with a commentary of 1500 words upwards. You are supervised and guided by a member of staff, with taught skills delivered in weekly timetabled lessons.
English Language - Grade 5
The course is 100% coursework and graded A* to E. As well as your outcome itself (the dissertation or study/ artefact and commentary) you will be marked on your log of learning and on a presentation. The four Assessment Objective (AO) measure are: AO1 - Manage AO2 - Use Resources AO3 - Develop and Realise AO4 - Review and communicate The course is completed by the Spring term of Year 12 and it is worth half an A Level – with UCAS points. You can have these secured before you apply for a university or job at the end of Sixth Form.
