The Cambridge Technical (CTEC) Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care is a vocationally-related qualification equivalent to one A Level which helps prepare students for employment in the health or social care sectors or for higher education. Students complete a number of mandatory units (building positive relationships, health & safety, equality and diversity, human lifespan, physiology and psychological perspectives in health) as well as a wide range of optional and specialist units. Students will also benefit from completing work experience within a health and social care setting. The variety of modules enable students to focus on a sector of particular interest or relevance to them and to produce a personal and professional development portfolio. You'll develop the professional and personal skills required to work in the care sector, as well as geting an understanding of the importance of delivering, person-centred care and support. You'll explore human anatomy and physiology and understand the principles and values that underpin good quality care services including equality, respecting diversity and promoting inclusive practice. There'll have the chance to focus on psychology or sociology topics, public health, nutrition, infection control or supporting people with specific needs such as dementia or mental health conditions through additional optional units. Through classroom-based lessons including group work, case study, discussion and role play activities as well as individual assignments. You'll have the opportunity to undertake work experience in a health and social care related organisation. There will be visits to and speakers from health and social care organisations.
7 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including grade 4 in Mathematics and English and 4/5 in Science.
