The course is wide-ranging and will cover many aspects of sport. Students will learn about the science of sport, psychology of sport and put sport in a socio-cultural perspective. Students need to be a performer in one sport, and also be able to analyse and evaluate performance in this sport. They should be participating in their sport on a regular basis outside of school as there will be limited chance to develop skills over the course. Visit the OCR website to find out which sports are available. Oral and written communication skills, team-work and understanding of sports performance, and physical activity from a wide perspective are all skills that will be developed during the course.
If GCSE PE has been studied, a minimum of a B grade is required. Grade B in Core and Additional science is also a requirement due to the heavy science content of the A Level course.
Physiological factors affecting performance: 2 hour exam 30% of the A level Psychological factors affecting performance: 1 hour exam 20% of the A level Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport: 1 hour exam 20% of the A level Performance in Physical Education: NEA (non-examined assessment ? coursework) 30% of the A level
