Modules: • Being a young person in German-speaking society • Understanding the German-speaking world • Diversity and difference • The making of modern Germany 1989 onwards In-depth study of a film, Good Bye Lenin! and a literary text, Der Vorleser by Bernhard Schlink. During the course students will develop their understanding of the spoken and written forms of German from a variety of registers. (Radio recordings, podcasts, TV recordings, newspapers/magazines, internet). They will learn how to communicate clearly and imaginatively in German through both spoken and written word, using increasingly accurate complex and varied language. They will increase their sensitivity to language and language learning. They will develop critical insights into, and contact with, the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries where German is spoken. They will be offered the opportunity to do work experience in Germany. They will be given the chance to attend lectures directed to post 16 students in universities in the North West. PASCH school status offers our A Level pupils many varied opportunities, not least the chance to apply for places on a free, 3 week long Youth Course in Germany. Exchange visits with our German partner schools in Cologne, Saarbruecken and Attendorn are regularly undertaken.
Grade 6 or above GCSE German, Higher Paper.
A2 Modules: Component 1: Speaking (21-23 minutes) Component 2: Listening, Reading, and Translation (2 hours 30 minutes) Component 3: Critical Response in Writing (2 hours)
