Area of Study 3: Physical Systems and Sustainability – The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity* & The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security*. Area of Study 4: Human Systems and Geopolitics – Superpowers* & Health, Human Rights and Intervention. A Compulsory 3-day residential field trip to the Lake District is part of this unit. Paper 3: Synoptic Geography - Examination based on three synoptic themes that run through topics identified with an asterisk* above. The themes are: Players, Attitudes & Actions and Futures & Uncertainties - The length of the exam 2h 15m, and Total marks 70, 20% of qualification. NEA (non-examination assessment) - Independent Investigation (Coursework) Length of exam - ongoing, Total marks 70, 20% of qualification. Within the question papers for Paper 1 (Physical Geography) and Paper 2 (Human Geography) there may be short open, open response, calculations and resource-linked questions. The examination includes 12-mark and 20-mark extended writing questions.
