Course summary

Law is a very broad subject that includes a study of the key issues currently impacting the United Kingdom. A Law student is required to have a sharp mind capable of critical evaluation as well as comprehensive problem-solving skills. The reformed A-Level Law has been designed to ensure students are well prepared for studying Law at university. Law students look at three areas of substantive including Crime, Tort and Contract. Each substantive topic must be critically evaluated which involves studying whether the law is fit for purpose in 21st Century Britain. The course also includes a study of the English legal system as well as an examination of how the concepts of morality, justice, society and technology underpin the nature of Law of the United Kingdom. Most students will continue their study of Law at university leading them onto a career in the legal profession. Some Law students take the skills they have learnt and move onto a wide range of degrees and apprenticeships. The Law department provides students with lots of extra-curricular opportunities such as visits to local courts, universities and Barrow-in-Furness police station. There is also an annual trip to London so that students can see Parliament and our Supreme Court in Westminster.
