You will explore a range of exciting texts, both modern and from the literary canon, that cover a wide scope of genres often not studied at GCSE. You will analyse the impact of language in literature and consider the writers’ intentions and contextual significance. A Level English Literature takes the skills you learn at GCSE and refines them; the focus now is your interpretation of texts not your ability to memorise them. You can even take the texts into the exam with you!
Five or more 9-4 grades at GCSE including English and Maths. A grade 6 or higher in GCSE English Literature.
At the end of Year 13, you will take three exams that cover the Drama, Prose and Poetry texts. You also undertake a piece of coursework over the course of the two years which is worth 20% of your final grade. The coursework essay will be a 2500 word comparative essay based on a chosen text that you study in lessons and a text you choose yourself based on your interests.
