The Extended Project Qualification is a free-standing qualification which offers students a free project choice, so they can explore in depth • an aspect of a subject they are studying, or • a topic in which they have a personal interest. Evidence can be provided in any form appropriate to the type of project chosen, and may include: • an artefact, model or construction • a CD/video/DVD of performances or activities • an audiotape/multimedia presentation • a journal of activities or events • a slide or PowerPoint presentation • a photographic record of the project. The Extended project will develop and build upon a wide range of transferable skills that will be useful for all other subject areas chosen. These will include decision making and problem solving, independent learning, research, critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills
At least 9 GCSE grades at 6 or above, including a 6 or above in English and at least one more 7-9 grade in a subject which relates to the intended project. The Extended Project Qualification is the equivalent of half an A level – the work is completed at A level standard, and it is taken as the 4th option choice in year 12.
