Our objective is to ensure that learning is enjoyable and enhances a student’s enthusiasm for Chemistry. There is an emphasis on acquiring practical and analytical skills. Year 1: Foundations in chemistry, periodic table, and energy, core organic chemistry Year 2: Physical chemistry and transition elements, organic chemistry and analysis. The development of practical skills is covered across the course.
You must have a grade 6 or above in Separate Sciences or grade 6 in Combined Science. It is essential to have a good working knowledge of Biology and Physics to understand aspects of the course and a grade 6 or above in GCSE Maths is required.
• Paper 1: Periodic table, elements and physical chemistry, 2hrs 15mins, 37% weighting • Paper 2: Synthesis and analytical techniques, 2hr 15mins, 37% weighting • Paper 3: Unified chemistry, 1hr 30mins, 26% weighting • Practical skills are assessed through the practical endorsement framework but this does not contribute to the overall grade.
