This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior hairdresser/hairstylist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include: - Advise and consult with clients - Blow-dry and style hair - Colour and lighten hair - Cut lady's hair - Health, safety and hygiene - Set and dress hair - Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp - Style hair with electrical equipment Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. Learners will acquire knowledge of all relevant testing together with health, safety and legislation requirements necessary for a junior hairdresser/hairstylist. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients and provide a range of basic cutting, colouring and lighting services. Alongside these are units to develop skills in setting, dressing, blow-drying and styling hair with electrical equipment. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem-solving and research skills will also be developed. You will gain support in choosing the right career choice and building confidence in working within a team and preparing for employment. English and maths will form part of this programme for 16-18 learners.
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English or maths, and/or a prior achievement at Level 1.
You will be on a course where the assessment of practical observations supports your program of learning. You will build a portfolio of evidence and assess it through practical assessments, exams, and assignments.
