The full course is divided into a six taught modules. The topics cover a wide area of physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Ideas met at GCSE are developed further, as well as new concepts being introduced. The relevance of and the applications of Chemistry are stressed throughout the course.
Grade 6,6 for GCSE combined science or grade 6 in Chemistry studied in Triple science. Grade 6 is required in GCSE Maths. Must have an average points score at GCSE of 5 of above.
There is a mixture of teaching and learning activities including practical work, using ICT, reading, writing, data handling and discussion. There are three written examinations, two of 2 hours 15 minutes and one of 1 hour 30 minutes. There will also be a practical endorsement for A-level Chemistry reported separately. Questions will include multiple choice, structured questions, and extended response questions covering both theory and practical skills.
