A Level Chemistry is the study of all chemical substances and how to change one chemical into another. The food you eat, the air you breathe, your own body, your mobile phone, the plants and streets around you are all made of chemicals. You want inexpensive products? Chemistry helps to decrease economic costs. You want a safe environment? Chemistry helps reduce pollution by detecting toxins and reducing them. With the development of new understanding in Chemistry, a safer world is born. Chemistry has 3 areas of study: Physical Chemistry such as atomic structure, amount of substance, kinetics (rates), equilibria and electrochemistry; Inorganic Chemistry including groups of the periodic Organic Chemistry, for example the chemistry of carbon compounds and spectroscopy. Throughout the course you will carry out activities to develop your practical skills.
7 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including: Grade 6 in Chemistry and one other science OR Grade 6/6 in Combined Science and Grade 6 in Mathematics.
