Art and Design (Fine Art)
Course summary
A Level Fine Art is an exciting course that celebrates and challenges creativity, imagination, and independence. Students choosing Fine Art as an option in Year 12 must be committed to the subject and enjoy the process of working as an artist, The course allows students to develop their artistic skills whilst specialising in areas and materials that are of interest to them. The A-level course culminates in an exhibition, which remains a focus throughout the study. The course acts as a stepping stone to an Art foundation course or a degree. Previous Level Art students have successfully continued their studies in the fields of architecture, teaching, fine art, film and theatre set design and props, art therapy, and textile, interior, and fashion design utilizing the skills learned from their art education. Art A-level students have also gone on to careers ranging from engineering, retail, medicine, and engineering. Students select and specialise in the following choice of media; Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Photography, Film, Animation, and Printmaking. Students are encouraged to visit galleries and museums as well as locally established art events to enhance their practice and learning. Students are expected to work independently during this course and in addition to the five timetabled lessons, there is an expectation that students will develop their work independently and in depth. To help students with this they are allocated their own studio space in which to work throughout the course during contact and non-contact time.
