The number and variety of careers in the health and social care sectors have increased greatly and will continue to do so. There is a growing demand for qualified people to work in the health and social care services. The Health and Social Care course is assessed with two coursework units and two externally assessed units. The core elements of the course include: • Human Lifespan Development: This externally assessed unit will develop students' knowledge and understanding of patterns of human growth and development. Students will explore the key aspects of growth and development, and the experience of health and well-being. • Working in Health and Social Care: This externally assessed unit will help students understand what it is like to work in the health and social care sector. Students will be looking at the range of roles and general responsibilities of people who work in health and social care settings. They will learn about organizations that provide services in this sector, and the different settings in which these services are delivered according to the needs of the service user. Students will learn about the ways these services are provided and about the barriers that can prevent people from getting the services they need. • Meeting Individual: Care and Support Needs: In this internally assessed, coursework unit students will learn about the values and principles of meeting care and support needs and look at some of the ethical issues that arise when personalizing care. Students will examine factors that can impact the professionals who provide care and support and the challenges that must be overcome to allow access to good quality care and health services. Potential Health and Social Care careers are extensive and include: • Nurse • Social Worker • Paramedic • Nursery Teacher • Physiotherapy • Midwife • Care Assistant • Dental Hygienist • Carer • Speech Therapist • Nursery Nurse
