Should 16-year-olds be allowed to vote? Was Brexit a good idea? Is Donald Trump an effective president? These are just some of the many exciting topics that you will be able to debate within Government and Politics lessons. In Year 12 students will focus on the Government and Politics of the UK and Political ideologies. In Year 13 students will study Global Politics. Other options have also been introduced, including political issues and ideologies in action. This course would complement students who wish to study History and English. It may also appeal to students who wish to study Government and Politics History at a higher level. A-level Government and Politics enables students to develop their critical thinking skills and enhance their ability to interpret, evaluate, and comment on the nature of politics. These skills are highly prized by universities and employers. It is ideal if students are considering studying politics, sociology, ethics, advertising, or journalism at University. Politics has applications in a wide range of careers, as it promotes critical thinking, rationality, problem-solving, and independent study. It is highly regarded by employers in industries including politics, global organizations, the media, government, and the civil service. Studying Government and Politics will equip you with a new way of thinking that will help you in all of your studies, and will develop a range of transferable skills which can be applied far beyond the study of Politics and into a range of academic and career areas.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 5 or higher including English and Math. Grade 5 in GCSE English Language or Literature and Maths.
