Are you interested in sport? Do you represent an Academy team or play for a club outside of the Academy? If the answer is yes then BTEC Sport is the Course for you. The Sports and Leisure industry is one of the most dynamic and exciting in the world today. It has seen a tremendous growth in terms of job opportunities in coaching, personal training, teaching and further education. A BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Sport is a practical, work related course, where students will experience a variety of units that give them an insight into the world of sport, fitness and leisure. Students learn by completing practical assessments and writing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. There is also an external exam to assess understanding of Physiology and Anatomy.
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or higher including English and Math. Merit Grade in BTEC Sport and a Grade 6 in Science.
In Year 12 students will study units 1 and 3. In Year 13 students will study units 2 and 4. Unit 1 is Anatomy and Physiology and covers aspects of the human body and the changes that occur when taking part in physical activity. This unit is assessed by an exam. Unit 2 is Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport, and Well-being. In this unit, students learn how to test for a variety of fitness and lifestyle components and produce an action plan to improve lifestyle and fitness. This unit is assessed by an externally moderated piece of coursework. Unit 3 is Professional Developments in the Sports Industry which prepares students for a career in the sport and leisure industry. This unit is internally assessed via coursework assignments. Unit 4 is Sports Leadership where students develop and plan coaching sessions to improve their leadership skills. This unit is internally assessed via coursework assignments.
