Economics is a social science and explores decision-making with regard to how economies grow, develop wealth, trade and resolve societal problems such as inequality and poverty. Students of Economics need a strong academic background and genuine interest in real-world affairs, as well as a highly analytical approach to be able to compare and evaluate different theories of economic progress and explore the policy implications.
6 GCSEs including at least a grade 5 in GCSE Maths and English.
Assessment is through three, 2 hour written exams with the papers being equally weighted: • Paper 1 Markets and Market Failure • Paper 2 National and International Economy • Paper 3 Economic Principles and Issues
