Course summary

Music Performance - The course is accessible to all musicians as there is no requirement to play in a specific style. You will have control, guided by your teachers, of the pieces that you will use as evidence of your repertoire and musical abilities. The assessment evidence includes live music events, a demo CD, a music video, rehearsal logs, website creation and promotion, along with other available modules. The RSL performance course is a single option. For the single course (1.5 A level equivalent) Music Technology - The course is accessible to all students with an interest in Music Technology. There is no requirement to play a traditional instrument, but students should be able to create music using technology and should have a firm understanding of music and music technology. The assessment evidence includes live sound recording and sound reinforcement along with evidence from many other exciting modules. The RSL Technology course is a single option. For the single course (1.5 A level equivalent).

Entry requirements

Music Performance - General A level requirements plus you need to have at least a Grade/Level 4 in GCSE music and be able to sing or play your instrument to at least a Grade 4 standard. If you do not have a formal music qualification, then an audition can be held (or portfolio/demo submitted) to determine if the course is appropriate for you. Music Technology - General A level requirements, you need to ideally have competed a Level 2 Music Technology course and gained at least a pass grade. - Students require 5 GCSEs at grade 5 and above including English and Maths.

How you'll be assessed

The whole course is portfolio-based, so every unit is formally assessed at the end of each half term. The Rehearsal Skills and Live Music Performance unit (30 credits) is the final major project and is a performance held in Year 13 and externally assessed by RSL Awards. The written portfolio can be continually amended to ensure students achieve highly.
