Our Computer Science specification is relevant to the modern and changing world of computing. This specification: • Puts computational thinking at its core, helping students to develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand human and machine intelligence. • Allows students to apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real world systems in an exciting and engaging manner. • Gives students a clear progression into higher education, as the course was designed after consultation with members of BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT), CAS and top universities.
• Entry to the Sixth Form is based on meeting the standard entry requirements. These include the passing of Maths and English Language at a grade 4. • In addition to this we use a calculation called Attainment 8 to work out a score for students to indicate their suitability for each pathway. This score is generated by combining a students’ best 8 subject grades, counting English and Maths twice and including a minimum of three Ebacc subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core & Additional Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish and German. For Waingels students this score will be included in any reports home. • A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50 ( Average Grade 5) • A grade 6 in Maths or Computer Science at GCSE.
