Students study a range of aspects of language including: language levels (e.g. grammar, the layout of texts); how language varies depending on social factors such as gender or professions; how our language has developed over time and how children acquire language. Parts of the course also assess writing skills, with opportunities for original writing and opinion writing.
• Entry to the Sixth Form is based on meeting the standard entry requirements. These include the passing of Maths and English Language at a grade 4. • In addition to this we use a calculation called Attainment 8 to work out a score for students to indicate their suitability for each pathway. This score is generated by combining a students’ best 8 subject grades, counting English and Maths twice and including a minimum of three Ebacc subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core & Additional Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish and German. For Waingels students this score will be included in any reports home. • A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50 ( Average Grade 5) • A grade 6 in both English Language and Literature at GCSE.
