Students will explore communist states in the 20th century, focusing on Russia from Lenin to Yeltsin and China under the leadership of Chairman Mao. The course will examine the key political, economic and social features of these countries. In Year 13, students develop their understanding of British history, focusing on major conflicts Britain has been involved in, from the Napoleonic Wars to the First World War. Students will also undertake a non-exam assessment unit on the Holocaust, developing key skills of analysis and evaluation.
• Entry to the Sixth Form is based on meeting the standard entry requirements. These include the passing of Maths and English Language at a grade 4. • In addition to this we use a calculation called Attainment 8 to work out a score for students to indicate their suitability for each pathway. This score is generated by combining a students’ best 8 subject grades, counting English and Maths twice and including a minimum of three Ebacc subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core & Additional Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish and German. For Waingels students this score will be included in any reports home. • A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50 ( Average Grade 5) • A grade 6 in History plus a grade 5 in English Language or Literature at GCSE.
