A Level Physics takes you from the motion of everyday objects such as bikes and fair ground rides, electrical circuits and gases, to the subatomic particles that make up atoms. At the other end of the scale we look at the forces that led to the formation of the universe and evidence used to determine its future fate. You will also do plenty of practical work and learn to work precisely and analyse the certainty of data. You will need strong maths skills to succeed on this course and almost all students take an A Level in Maths to complement it.
• Entry to the Sixth Form is based on meeting the standard entry requirements. These include the passing of Maths and English Language at a grade 4. • In addition to this we use a calculation called Attainment 8 to work out a score for students to indicate their suitability for each pathway. This score is generated by combining a students’ best 8 subject grades, counting English and Maths twice and including a minimum of three Ebacc subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core & Additional Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish and German. For Waingels students this score will be included in any reports home. • A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50 ( Average Grade 5) • A grade 6 in Maths plus 6-6 in Combined Science, or grade 6 in Physics.
Three 2 hour exams (35%, 35% and 30%)
