Course summary

Design Technology is all about using your individuality, intellect and creativity to address problems in the world around us. You will learn about materials, techniques, and skills both practically and theoretically. Yes we do make things. In this way we will increase your understanding of how careers within Design and technology influence the world in which we exist. As a designer/maker, you will learn how your individuality can make a difference to the world around us. We pride ourselves on creating individuals with a dynamic future in the constantly developing world of design and manufacturing. The course allows you to explore your strengths within design and technology and exposes you to new and emerging skills and technologies that are now in their infancy but will be mainstream careers by the time you are qualified. 250 new and exciting jobs will be created within the field of design and technology by the time you are looking for a career according to the Design Council and the Institute of Engineering. Paper 1 Technical principles. Written exam: 2 hours 30 mins, 120 marks, 30% of A Level, a mixture of short and extended responses. Paper 2 Design and making principles. Written exam: 1 hour and 30 minutes, 80 marks, 20% of A Level.
