
Year 12 will see a particular focus on the nature of business, and its four key functions:- marketing, operations, human resources and finance. Students will analyse strategy and its relative success, as well as that tricky aspect of ‘managing change’. The four themes to be studied across the two years are:- Marketing & People:- Meeting customer needs, The Market, Marketing mix and strategy, Managing people, Entrepreneurs and leaders. Managing Business Activities:- Raising finance, Financial planning, Managing finance, Resource management, External influences. Business Decisions & Strategy:- Business objectives and strategy, Business growth, Decision-making techniques, Influences on business decisions, Assessing competitiveness, Managing change. Global Business:- Globalisation, Global markets & business expansion, Global marketing, Global industries & companies (multinational corporations). The course will be supported by a core textbook, and access to the highest quality on-line resources. Students will be expected to engage with business in the news, and actively research businesses of different types throughout the two year course. A number of trips to local businesses, and those further afield will supplement learning as well as inspire our future leaders of business and self-employed businessmen.
Grades 6 in English and Maths. GCSE Business Studies preferable, but not essential.
Three externally assessed examinations at the end of Year 13, with each paper being 2 hours long.
