The Extended Diploma is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in business areas, before entering employment. It also supports learners who want to progress directly to employment in job roles in business or business management and Higher Apprenticeships in the business sector. Students will study the following mandatory modules:- Exploring Business; Developing a Market Campaign; Personal and Business Finance; Managing an Event; International Business; Principles of Management; and Business Decision Making. A further six optional modules will be studied, chosen by the subject lead. Those optional modules cover material such as:- human resources, accounting, financial services, marketing, law, and retail. A number of extra-curricular trips to businesses, talks from successful professionals, internal business and entrepreneurship activities, and work experience opportunities will support the learning and progress in the course. You would be able to take this subject as an Extended Certificate (equivalent of 1 A-Level) or as an Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-Levels)
English and Maths Grade 5 or better. Grade 4 or better at GCSE Business Studies preferable, but not necessary.
For the Extended Diploma: Four of the mandatory modules assessed externally, and the other nine assessed by the course teachers. Most assessments will be completed during lessons and homework, but there will be more supervised exam sessions e.g. online exam, answering seen and unseen questions on pre-released material in exam conditions, and more traditional exams. Students receive grades for the assessments throughout the course (with assessments in Dec / Jan and May / June), meaning a less stressful end of Year 13. Furthermore, assessments can be resubmitted during the course where students feel they could achieve more. For the Extended Certificate: two mandatory modules, and a range of optional modules chosen by the teacher.
