
A-Level Geography covers contemporary geographical issues, physical and human geography, builds geographical skills and explores fieldwork, evaluates environmental impact as well as management and sustainability. The course combines new areas of study with analysing topics from GCSE in greater depth. The “applied” segments of the course also look at the impact of human intervention on the environment, and the adaptations people make to mitigate this. You will learn in a wide variety of ways:- using maps, GIS skills, data analysis, photos, videos, and podcasts, as well as attending lectures and study days. You will be encouraged to frame your own questions using higher level thinking skills and show your grasp of complex issues through reports and essays. Grade 6 in Geography
Two papers each of 2 hours and 30 minutes at the end of Year 13 each with a combination of short and extended answer questions, and one NEA, submitted in the Spring Term of Year 13. Paper 1: Physical Geography:- Water and Carbon cycles, Coastal systems and landscapes, Hazards (40%). Paper 2: Human Geography:- Global systems and Global Governance, Changing Places, Contemporary Urban Environments (40%). Fieldwork Investigation: Individual investigation including data collated in the field, linked to one area of the specification. Maximum 4000 words, 20% of A-level, and marked by the Geography teacher.
