Many students who study Mathematics also choose to study Further Mathematics. The course provides a solid foundation for further study in Mathematics and other disciplines that make extensive use of mathematical skills. As part of this course at Thorpe we teach Further Pure and Further Mechanics. The Further Mathematics A-level course consists of Core Pure, Further Pure and Further Mechanics components. There will be a healthy balance of taught lessons, online lessons and independent study.
Grade 8 in Maths
All components are examined at the end of Year 13. Students will sit four 90 minute exam papers (2 Core Pure, 1 Further Pure and 1 Further Mechanics) which are out of 75 marks each; calculators are allowed for all four exam papers. There is no coursework involved.
