
Psychology is the science of human behaviour and the mind. Fascinatingly in this course, as we study theory, and case studies, we will all learn something about the functioning of our own minds as well! This course provides the broad study of a wide range of areas of Psychology, to foster interest and later specialism. To perform well, you will need good scientific, literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that you can access all of the knowledge, analyse data, research evidence, and perform well in the extended answers, showing sound communication skills. Your ability in these areas will be developed throughout the two years, in lessons that will include group discussions, individual work, experiments and the evaluation of the resultant data and evidence, and access to contemporary psychologists and psychiatrists through video, speakers and trips. There will also be the need to read widely around the subject.
At least Grade 5 in Science, preferably a Grade 6 in Biology, Maths and English.
Three papers, each of 2 hours, comprising of stimulus and data response, short and extended answer questions, taken at the end of Year 13. Paper 1: Social psychology, Cognitive psychology, Biological psychology, Learning theories. Paper 2: Clinical psychology, and one of Criminal, Child or Health psychology. Paper 3: Psychological skills: methods, synoptic review, issues and debates.
