The assessments see a mixture of examinations marked by the exam board, and internally assessed tasks, which would be marked by their teachers throughout the two year course. The examinations will also be set at times that will often differ from other, linear subjects e.g. in December or January of Years 12 and 13, and the summer of Year 12. Retakes are possible where underachievement may have occurred. The internal assessment will be completed regularly during the course, and success criteria is made crystal clear to students to enable them to focus their efforts on what is needed to gain those Distinction grades.
