Taught lessons will enhance students research, planning, referencing, presentation, record-keeping and evaluation skills. The research, production of the final piece and all other elements are down to the students to complete in study periods, or their free time. Previous EPQs have included:- dress making, history, economics, criminology or politics essays, set design for drama productions, skill development in practical abilities e.g. sport or dance including coaching, medical ethics, assessing racism in football, social media, pollution or environmental issues in the local area, and many more besides… the choice is yours!
All students will take the EPQ alongside their 3 subject choices. The only exceptions to this will be those taking Further Maths as a 4th A-Level, and by special arrangement with Head of Sixth Form.
Independent research based study, based on a subject of the student’s choosing. The final piece to be assessed could be an essay of 5000 words, performance, or artefact e.g. a dress, sculpture, script or musical composition. Students will make a final presentation to staff and peers, where they will explain their learning and production journey, and the final piece. They will also field questions. Students are graded on: their final piece, research, planning, monitoring of progress, presentation and evaluation. However, their final piece does not carry as many marks as the other elements. Assessment will be by Thorpe House staff.
