How does the body function during exercise? How does an elite performer control their nerves to score that winning penalty? How are performance drugs cheats caught at the Olympics? These questions and more are addressed in A-Level PE. A-Level PE is a popular course at Taunton School and sits alongside BTEC Sports and Exercise Science as one of our two post-16 pathways available to candidates. The A-Level course allows students to keep their breadth of study alongside other A-Level subjects, keeping their options open for university/ further studies. Candidates might also love this route because it gives them a chance to be practically assessed in one sport of their choice, with their competence in that sport having a direct impact on their overall A-Level grade. Students who choose this subject should have a love of sport, physical activity and/or exercise.
Sixth form applicants need at least five grade 5s at GCSE but some A-level subjects need a higher grade. Assessment tests for those not taking recognised exams. Grade 6 in PE GCSE or Grade 7 in Biology or Combined Science GCSE
Examination: 70% (Two Written Papers) Non-examined Assessment: 30% (Video evidence of one sport or physical activity and one piece of written coursework)
