Studying mathematics encourages logical thought and an analytical approach to solving problems. Mathematics is not just about grades. Students should be studying it to enrich their knowledge, appreciate the many interactions between the vast number of concepts and gain satisfaction from solving complex problems independently. Students who are excited by Mathematics and enjoy playing with problems or exploring various areas independently have the option of studying Further Mathematics. If you intend to do this, you will complete the A Level in one year and sit a further four exams at the end of the Upper Sixth: • Further Core 1 • Further Core 2 • Further Pure 1 • Further Mechanics 1
To take Further Maths at A Level, the minimum requirement is grade 8 at GCSE/IGCSE Maths. The Further Maths course is a two year course with the A Level Maths completed in the first year. Students are required to attain an A grade in A Level Maths at the end of the Lower Sixth if they wish to proceed with Further Maths in the Upper Sixth.
