You should choose Latin if you enjoyed studying it at GCSE and are keen to develop your knowledge and understanding of the classical world further! Latin will enhance your understanding of the accidence and syntax of the Latin language and develop your interest in and appreciation of some of the most influential literature of the Roman period. You will study a range of selected prose and verse classical authors, including Cicero, Tacitus, Livy, Virgil, and Ovid. Through these texts, you will be able to discuss and understand a diverse range of issues which they raise, some of which are of universal importance, such as life, death, love, war, philosophy and politics and the roles of men and women in society.
It is important to gain at least a 6, and ideally a 7, in Latin GCSE to progress to A Level. A willingness and ability to read and enjoy literature, along with a logical and analytical approach towards translation, are also essential.
